There is no single right answer to "when should we come to Bodrum?" — but for a boat trip specifically, each month has a clear character. Here is an honest summary of the Bodrum season through the triangle of sea temperature, crowds and wind.
The Bodrum sea, month by month
- May: season opening. The sea is still cool (19-21°C) but the bays are empty and the light is superb for photos.
- June: the sweet spot. The water warms up (22-24°C) and the crowds have not peaked yet. One of the smartest choices, in our view.
- July–August: peak season. Sea above 25°C, maximum deck energy, the party boat atmosphere at its most intense. Early booking is a must.
- September: the locals' favourite. The sea has warmed all summer (24-26°C), the crowds have thinned, evenings are still mild.
- October: the season's quiet farewell. Midday swims are still lovely and the bays fall silent again.
Which month for which traveller?
Choose July-August for peak party atmosphere; September for the calm-bay-plus-warm-sea combination; May-June if budget and tranquillity come first. Even on afternoons when the meltemi wind blows hardest, sheltered bays stay calm — the route is drawn around it every day anyway. Whichever month you pick, the sunset never misses a shift.
