Walk along the Gumbet seafront and you will pass pier boards that read "pirate boat". The word sounds adventurous, yet it describes a style of day trip rather than a class of vessel. Below we go through the terms you will hear around those signs and explain what each one means on our own programme.
Terms on the board
Pirate boat
A day-trip boat dressed as a pirate ship: wooden hull, masts and decorative rigging. A Gumbet pirate boat trip simply means a daily bay cruise with that visual theme. It has nothing to do with unlicensed sailing: the boat is registered, life jackets and safety gear are on deck, and insurance is in place.
Day trip
One departure, one return, same day, same pier. Ours leaves Gumbet Harbour at 10:30 and is back at 17:00, so you plan for roughly six and a half hours.
Bay cruise
The route is built around bays reached from the water rather than beaches. Our four stops follow one order: Dalgic Bay, Ada Bogazi, Asiklar Bay and Aquarium Bay.
Terms inside the programme
Swim stop
The time at anchor when you can get into the water, 30 to 40 minutes at each bay. We have broken the stops down bay by bay in a separate piece.
Included lunch
Lunch is part of the price: chicken, pasta and salad, served around 13:00 while the boat lies at Ada Bogazi. Drinks are not included; they are bought separately at the deck bar. The menu and serving order are described elsewhere.
Transfer
Hotel pick-up in Gumbet, Bitez and Ortakent is covered by the ticket, with no surcharge on the day.
Wording that gets confused
- "Pirate" refers to the decor, never to an unlicensed sailing.
- There is no breakfast on board; the first service is lunch.
- Food included and drinks included are two different claims.
- Towels are not handed out, so bring your own.
- This is not an evening cruise; you are back on the pier at 17:00.
Who it suits and who it does not
The DJ keeps the volume low in the morning and lifts the tempo after lunch, when the dance animations start. If you want a quiet day at sea, this is not your boat. The deck holds 100 guests and has toilets, a shower and a changing cabin; pets are not allowed and smoking is limited to marked areas.
